Students begin with a self-assessment based on CanDo statements. Based on their score students are given four Speaking and four Writing prompts with three prompts delivered at the self-assessed level and one prompt delivered at a level above the self-assessed level. Responses are scored by trained and certified raters who are members of the language community. WorldSpeak provides the same detailed reporting of levels based on the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines as Avant’s other assessments.

Aligned to the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines

Avant WorldSpeak utilizes spontaneous, unrehearsed situations to measure real-world language proficiency scoring at levels Novice through Advanced based on the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.

About Avant WorldSpeak

in Writing and Speaking

Avant created the WorldSpeak language proficiency test to meet the growing need for heritage language communities to have rigorous, professionally scored, and affordable assessments. WorldSpeak measures the speaking and writing proficiency  levels based on the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. Programs use Avant WorldSpeak in similar ways to Avant STAMP: to qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy, award Competency-Based Credits, and to analyze testing data to improve curricula and introduce appropriate professional development to improve proficiency outcomes.

Year after year, Avant has regularly released new WorldSpeak language proficiency tests and continues to do so. We are seeking language community partners that can work with us to add more languages.

The Avant WorldSpeak Language Proficiency test is offered in Amharic, Armenian, Chin (Hakha), Czech, English, Filipino (Tagalog), Haitian-Creole, Hmong, Ilocano, Samoan, Somali Maay Maay, Somali Maxaa, Tamil, Telugu, Turkish, Vietnamese, Urdu, and Yup’ik.
